Enhancing the resilience of Honiara, Solomon Islands
A new Urban Resilience and Climate Action Plan has been endorsed and launched by Honiara City Council, the Solomon Islands Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey, and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology. This action plan was developed by Alexei Trundle (Researcher) and Professor Darryn McEvoy (Global Advisor) as part of UN-Habitat’s ‘Cities and Climate Change Initiative’. It sets out a multi-level framework – at the community, ward and city levels – for resilience actions that involve city and national Government, local communities, NGOs, and a variety of other interested stakeholder groups. Particular attention is paid to the issues faced by informal settlements.
