Miquel Barceló holds a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and Graduate degree in economic sciences, from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and graduate degree in social sciences ICESB (UB).
From 2004 – 2007 he acted as Executive President of 22@BARCELONA a progressive urban renewal project in Barcelona’s formerly industrial area of Poblenou. Prior to this Miquel was an independent member of the Parlament de Catalunya for 5 years from 1999. He has served as President of the Industrial and Energy Commission; was general manager of Institut Català de Tecnologia (1987 to 1999); and was directly for responsible for the industrial safety, technical standards and regulation at the Ministerio de Industria y Engergia from 1985 – 1987.
Miquel is currently serving as President of INNOPRO Global Services, a consultancy company in alliance with Bearing International and of Barcelona International Network (www.bcnnin.com). Is director of BarcelonaKey.com, director of the MBI (Master in Business Innovation) at the UPC and author of different books and articles, among them “Catalunya, un país industrial” (Catalonia, an industrial country), Joan Sardà prize 2003 from the Catalan economist association. In January 2014 he published a new book “Gestion de proyectos complejos” Editorial Pirámide and with his most recent publication in 2016 with the book “Citinomics, Economia, Innovación y Territorio”.
Since the summer of 2012 Miquel has worked as an Expert of the European Union DGRegio for the RIS3 Program (Region Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization) and Structural Funds for the next period 2014-2020.
Miquel resides in Barcelona.
