THE FUTURE WE WANT 2016 Sustainability Forum

Marking World Habitat Day, the 2016 Sustainability Forum FOCUS SDG11 – THE FUTURE WE WANT will feature presentations from leading experts in the fields of spatial research, architecture, heritage, sustainable development, and global humanitarian programs.

The event is an initiative of the United Nations Association of Australia Peace Program.

Chair of the UN Global Compact – Cities Programme, Michael Nolan, will be participating on the panel, Sustainable Cities – The Global Compact (Session 2).

The keynote speaker for event, Astronaut Ron Garan, will share his experience of spending over 177 days in space in Session 1: The Orbital Perspective – The Blue Marble’s Sustainable Futures.

Colonel Ron Garan (USAF Ret’d) is a decorated fighter pilot, astronaut, aquanaut, and entrepreneur. He has logged 178 days in space and 71 million miles in orbit. He is the founder of the non-profit social enterprise incubator Manna Energy Foundation and has worked with the US Agency for International Development. Ron is also the founder of ‘Fragile Oasis’, an effort to use the orbital perspective to inspire positive social and environmental action.

His main message: we need optimism, trust and global collaboration in order to sustain the way we currently live.

Session 3 will be on Sustainable Communities – the Human Habitat and the Existential Imperative. 

The Sustainability Forum will take place in Sydney from 9am to 5pm on 5 October 2016.
