Global Compact Leaders Summit 2013 – Special Event

“Partnerships for Sustainability: Cities, States, Corporations”

New York, September 19, 2013

The Global Compact Cities Programme and the Regional Center for the Support of the Global Compact in Latin America and the Caribbean jointly hosted a special session at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2013 in New York on September 19  titled ‘Partnerships for Sustainability: Cities, States, Corporations’.

The Forum aimed to bring together state government and city leaders with corporations to discuss the important role that partnerships and collaboration play in addressing critical urban and regional issues. Participants looked at collaborations that can leverage and develop effective, holistic approaches to sustainability. It drew on a number of initiatives in both developed and developing countries, which include the cross-sectoral efforts of Latin American states and cities, city wide business-led alliances in the United States and the collaborative work of leading Latin American and European corporations. These included new state wide sustainability alliances being established in Brazil.

The event aimed to incentivize the creation of initiatives that bring city/state and corporate leaders together at the local network level.
