2017 Model UN Conferences
The United Nations Association of Australia Victoria (UNAAV) is running conferences in schools, universities and organisations to actively train people in advocacy, debating and global thinking.
A Model UN Conference is a simulation of the UN General Assembly during which delegates step into the shoes of ambassadors from around the world and discuss contentious global issues – with the aim being to find the best possible solution through dialogue, negotiation and multilateral diplomacy.
“Your goal may be to resolve a conflict, to cope with a natural disaster or to bring nations together on an issue like climate change. You may be playing a role, but you are also preparing for life. You are acting as global citizens.” – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Second-language Model UN Conferences
UNAAV organises Model UN Conferences in languages other than English. Language Model UN Conferences offer students the opportunity to practice the language they study at VCE level in a realistic international setting, debating global issues with students from other schools.
Conferences have been held over the past three years in French, German and Italian.
In 2017, with sponsorship from the Victorian Department of Education and Training, Languages Unit, UNAAV will be running four language-specific Model UN Conferences for VCE language students in Victoria.
